E&O insurance

South Dakota Notary E&O Insurance

As of July 1, 2025, South Dakota no longer requires notaries public to post a surety bond; House Bill 1133 eliminated the former $5,000 bond. Notaries are commissioned by the Secretary of State after filing a seal impression and oath of office and paying the $30 application fee. Errors and omissions (E&O) insurance remains optional.
